Twins!
Friday, February 5, 2010 at 7:32PM
Well, our first kids of the year are on the ground... or on the kitchen floor as the case may be. Licorice had a very easy go of it, for a first timer. Both boys were up and nursing quickly. They weigh 8 pounds each. Ben made a nest for them downstairs, until the weather warms up. Yay for goat babies!

how sweet! I am curious as to where you can purchase them at up there? We lived in anchorage for a few years and are permanently moving back when my husband medically retires from the army. We are hoping to have a couple dairy goats. how do you make sure they stay warm all winter? You have chickens too right? I have so many questions, I hope you dont mind.
Hi Jess, Alaska looks forward to having you back. Goats are pretty easy to come by, and don't take alot of winter preparations to stay healthy. They can sleep in a doghouse. Chickens are difficult either, if their house is sized properly, they can keep themselves warm. Both chickens and goats benefit from the deep litter system... keep adding bedding all winter instead of cleaning out the dirty stuff, and the compost action generates heat.
