Snow days - Part II
Yeah! Its still snowing out there... and we've had probably 18 inches of snow in this storm, which has packed down to at least 14 inches. Its getting deep!
Yes, Ben is still stuck in the bush with his Dad... I'm so glad he made it over to Camp 5 where they can be snowed in together. They only had 11 inches in camp... but that's enough to effectively bury the trapline and render it useless until everything gets dug out.
Its nice they have a snowmachine to use for packing down the airstrip and getting some firewood in. I'm pretty happy to have a snowmachine out here too. It makes it really handy to run home and fix a chainsaw when you're out cutting trail.
I did manage to get the trail opened up yesterday, halfway through the storm. And I'm glad I did, because there was no way that we were getting through that mess of alders bent over the Mine Road. Its always good to try to stay one step ahead.
This morning I'm out to snowshoe pack the trails to the outhouse and woodyard and chickens, and find all the pans in the doglot. The snow is at least waistdeep on our 2 year old now, so I guess we'll see how that goes.
And otherwise, I think we're just hanging around the cabin today. Trees are getting heavy with snow now, and are shedding heavy avalanches of snow all around. Not something you want to get stuck out in, not with a toddler anyway.
I just love days like this. Its like living in a neverland where everything is spun in cotton candy. In fact, its so snowy and white that it doesn't even make for good pictures... but that doesn't mean I won't try. Maybe I'll get some good shots to share with you. Happy trails!
