Reflections

Here we are, in the last hours of the first decade in the 21st century.  Its a lovely blue moon, and the sky's the limit for next year's happenings.  Who knows what 2010 will bring for our family and our world?!

There's one change that we're anticipating here on the homestead... and that's the addition of my Mom to our community.  She's spent increasing amounts of time with us since our daughter was born, and now she's ready to make the big move to Alaska and all it offers.

We have another possibility for new neighbors as well- a friend from Oregon is considering coming up with her kids in April or so, to find out if the north country is everything that she has dreamed it is.

If all this pans out, then there will be changes indeed.  A Gramma and neighbor kids are not small things... not small things at all, and both will be very welcome around here.  

Otherwise, I'm hoping to bring another dairy goat home in the next few weeks... and am aiming to double my flock of hens by next fall.  The dogteam may continue to dwindle, but we want to add a livestock guardian pup to our family.

We want to get a roof over our timber frame shop, and get started on additions to the cabin.  And maybe that new trapline cabin in the bush can get started with a cache and a foundation.

Thinking back over the last decade is like a picture show.  I remember meeting my husband for the first time like it was yesterday.  Heck, I'm wearing the same hat right now as I write.  Airplanes, and backpacking trips, and wildlife encounters, and goat kids come and gone... not to mention our daughter's grand entry onto this earth...

A wild ride it's been, and off we go toward destination unknown.  Happy New Year everyone!
