Up and running

Well, things seem to be moving about a mile a minute around here... it seems like every day that the sun gets higher multiplies the amount of activity up on the mountain.

Of course, some of the increase is due to the exponential rise in the number of goats.  Not that I'm complaining, mind you... in fact, I'm all over it.

There are very exciting changes afoot!  Not only has Ben been rattling the bushes, calling in some hunters for the 2010 season, but he also has the sawmill operating in fine condition- ripping rafters for our timber frame shop.

And with eggs, and herdshares in high demand among those who care how their food is produced, Lunachick Mountain Farmstead is growing as fast as it can.

Ben and I have agreed that we want to double our flock of hens by next fall, which means adding on to the chicken house for a total of nearly 500 square feet of floor space.

And we're going to keep adding goats to the herd until we come to a balance where we feel like we have all the work we want.  That means I'll be coming home with another doe or two this week!

One of Licorice's babies is already sold, and I'm confident the other will find his place in the world.   And today I sold a handful of broody hens... Yep, things are happenin'!

How exciting things are right now... very dynamic and envigorating!  Yippee!
