Silence falls across the land, magnified by the deep grey sky and a breath of wind. I love how still the winter seems. And it will be another 10 days at least, before we see the first shadow of the sun's return here at the cabin.
Taslyn and I snowshoed about yesterday, but the sun didn't poke through the clouds- even in its tried and true spot high up in the big backyard. That's okay, though it would have been a fine Solstice treat... we had fun plundering around in the plush of winter's bounty.
Ben came home late last night and left hours before daylight this morning. He's back to the hangar to try to finish repairing his plane. I don't know how long it will take, but I guess he'll be done when he's done.
I didn't harvest chickens yesterday after all, but I did look over each and every one of my 49 birds and take stock. Maybe I'll push back the harvest until this weekend. I flipped all their litter yesterday, not a small job... but I forgot to go out and pick up eggs last night! Oh well, they're probably just fine. These 20 degree temperatures are just lovely, so I doubt any froze.
The cheese is gorgeous. I turned the burner the wrong direction at the very last minute, so it got a little hot at the end, but I think its going to turn out okay. It was really a bummer, not knowing whether I'd ruined it or not, but we shall see. All three pounds is already spoken for- I really hope it tastes as good as it looks!
Today's going to be another lazy one, just enjoying the quiet of our Solstice. We're sad Ben is not home with us, but maybe I can whip up something yummy for a dinner celebration... and fireworks? Yep, its a plan. Now, off to dream it up and make it happen. Cheers!
